Recorded March 6, 2009. Lima is the capital and largest city of Peru. It is located in the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers, on a coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It forms a contiguous urban area with the seaport of Callao. Lima is the 5th largest city in Latin America, behind Mexico City, São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. Lima ranks as the 17th most populous city in the world with a population exceeding 8 million. The video begins at the airport and then we drive to the historical center of Lima which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988 due to its importance during the colonial era leaving a testimony to architectural achievement. On the way we were able to view many of the wooden balconies for which Lima is famous. We continue our tour on foot at the monastery and church of saint Francis. We then walk to the main square and visit the Cathedral of Lima. Located around the Plaza de Armas is the gigantic Cathedral of Lima, the government building of the peruvian president and several other official buildings. Very special is the fact, that all the buildings are painted in yellow....to have a contrast to the often grey sky. From: http://timvp.com
