Descripción de Toyota Prius Unintended Accleration- 2008 Toyota Prius Gas Pedal:
VIDEO COMMENT CORRECTION- All Prius are equipped with the over-ride that cancels acceleration when both the gas pedal and brake pedal are pressed. On March 9, 2010 in California a man named James Sikes called 911 and reported that his '08 Prius was heading down the Intersate at 94 MPH and he couldn't make the car stop. He suggested that he "stood on the brakes," and still nothing. He also suggested that he didn't want to push the power button or shift the car into Neutral because it's unsafe. Is it safer to drive 94 MPH out of control? I know better than that. Something's up with this story. Over the last couple of months, Toyota's been under fire becuase we don't install the brake system over-ride in all of our cars. James should have paid attention to the news as he would have found that the '08 Prius and all Prius since '08 model year have the brake over-ride softwart from the factory.....James, did you really "stand on the brake pedal?" I've heard that Mr. Sikes visited his dealership several days before this incident, further it was said that he had a recall letter from Toyota in hand indicating that his Prius was recalled for floor mat entrapment ( http://www.toyota.com/recall/floormat.html ). It's said that his dealer said there was no recall. Was this customer upset at that? Was there some point that he wanted to make? If that's true, the dealership made an error and perhaps this is the feeb-back from that customer. That's my speculation, there's no info that I have to prove that. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Spike-in-Prius-complaints-may-apf-3142640701.html?x=0&.v=1 Toyota has posted a response to the ABC News Special Report that was posted earlier this month. In the ABC News video, a professor from an Illionis University, David Gilbert duplicated "unintended accleration," in a Toyota Avalon. He introduced a situation which is probably impossible in the real world and showed that Toyota's ETC system could encounter a situation with wires shoring out and the car acclerating. Based on the video, there's some fancy box needed to duplicate this thing.
