We recommend looking into bundling. Just like at home with your cable, internet, phone bill, if you bundle your life insurance, your homeowners insurance, and your auto insurance, you can oftentimes lower your price and save on all three. BITSY: Awesome. ERIN: Pretty amazing, and remember that multiple drivers does not mean multiple carriers. BITSY: And there are some ideas that your insurance carrier is not necessarily going to share, like deals like local mileage break, or low risk occupation deal, you know those things can save you money, and look for discounts for features that most cars already have like anti-lock brakes, automatic seatbelts, airbags, daytime running lights, all of these could get you a discount if you just let your insurer know about them. ERIN: And as if you need one more reason to be a Costco member, here it is. Costco offers a discounted online defensive driving course, which can greatly reduce your rates. It's super easy, and it saves you money. BITSY: Pretty sweet. Now if your kids school offers driver's ed, make em take it. For one thing, it's an easy A, and with A's there are even more deals to be had, most carriers give discounts to teen drivers with good grades. ERIN: Exactly. BITSY: So tell Johnny to start cracking those books. Now what about maintenance and repairs. I know that's sort of a daunting thing for most consumers, but especially for women who are going to the mechanic alone. ERIN: Yes but have no fear, go over and check out RepairPal.com It's a great reference site, once you've gone to your mechanic and gotten a quote you can go online and check their averages against other quotes and see if you're getting a fair price from your mechanic. BITSY: I love that idea. ERIN: Yeah me too. BITSY: Now ConsumerReports.org also comes through, they advise consumers to shop around, even among dealerships. They did this little test, they called around a bunch of dealerships for the same routine maintenance. Now even within one little area the dealerships varied in price of up to $250. ERIN: That's a lot of money. BITSY: Yeah that's a lot of money for a Frugalicious woman, so call around and find the best price.
